Historic Mineral Point Welcomes the 13th Annual Paint The Point!
Arts Mineral Point is proud to present the 13th Annual Paint The Point Plein Air Festival. The event begins Wednesday, August 5th and runs through Saturday, August 8th. The four-day festival features forty-five professional artists from across the nation.
In the Main Event, participating artists have 3 days to paint scenes of historic Mineral Point, Dodgeville, and the beautiful Upland Hills countryside. They will each submit their two favorite paintings on Friday afternoon. These paintings will be judged by a three-person jury of arts professionals.
The Nocturne Event on Thursday evening, August 6th, is a fine time to visit Mineral Point. Artists set up their easels in the downtown historic district at twilight, and paint into the night! Wander down High Street and back alleys and get a glimpse of how artists use paints and mediums to capture nighttime “nocturne” scenes.
On Saturday, August 8th, the gallery at the Masonic Lodge, 304 High Street, opens at 9am. All the paintings from the Main and Nocturne events will be available for sale until 5pm.
The Quick Paint Event offers visitors another perfect chance to see artists paint. Beginning at 8am on Saturday, artists have two hours to paint a scene of the city center. These paintings will then be framed, judged and made available for sale at 12:30pm. This sale will take place outdoors at 310 High Street, adjacent to the Masonic Lodge.
This festival is a must-attend for art collectors, as well as anyone interested in how paintings are created! There are many opportunities to view artists working in several painting mediums, as they employ their talents to capture scenes “en plein air” (from life).
In addition for the chance to purchase fine professional plein air artwork, Mineral Point offers many galleries, shops, dining and lodging venues for visitors to explore and enjoy in “The City Where Wisconsin Began.” For more event information, visit artsmp.org/paint-the-point
