Cut & Color: Hand Painted Woodcut Prints
Learn the fundamentals of creating a one-color woodcut print and then painting the print with gouache paint. The technique of painting woodcuts goes back centuries but other paints were used. Gouache became widely accessible in the 19th and 20th centuries with industrial production. Using Japanese carving tools and shina wood, a Japanese maple plywood, we will create a one-color wood cut print. Once the print has dried, we will explore the process of painting the print with gouache. Material fee includes: Paper, ink, and other supplies.
