Following is a favorite bicycle route that was suggested by Jeff Donaghue, Owner and Brewmeister, Brewery Creek Inn

  • # Miles: See Directions for variations
  • Road Surface: Township and County roads.
  • Terrain: Rolling undulations, punctuated with short steep climbs, followed by short steep descents.

This route goes out and back with three possible side loops, the "Suther's Road Loop", the "County G Loop", and the "Burr Oak Loop". The main loop is also cut in half by "Tibbits Road" making many variations possible. The loops can be done clockwise or counter clockwise, depending on how you feel and wind direction, etc. The mileage is given from point to point.

Each of the routes offer beautiful scenery, wildlife, bucolic farm scenes, and have very little traffic.

Directions: "The Ferndale County O Loop"

  • Begin at the newest Mineral Point Municipal Parking Lot next to Brewery Creek:
  • South on Commerce Street to Jackson, right, immediate left, continue South to Ferndale at the City limits [.5 miles]
  • Ferndale to Suthers Road [2.3 miles]
  • Suthers Loop. See below.
  • Continue South on Ferndale from Suthers Road. Across a small creek, up two short climbs to the ridge top, along the ridge past Ivey Road [1.5 miles] to Tibbits [1.3 miles].
  • Tibbits Road goes West (down) to County O [1.4 miles]. See below.
  • Follow Ferndale along the ridge, a few turns, a few undulations, then down to the Pecatonica (Pec) River crossing. Immediately up to the ridge top, down, back up to the ridge top. Ferndale ends at County C [3.7 miles]
  • * County G Loop. See below.
  • * Burr Oak Road Loop. See below.
  • Continue straight on County C to County O [3.7 miles]
  • Right on County O, down. Along the river valley to the bottom of Tibbits Road [2.9 miles]
  • Continue on County O up to the ridge (several undulations) to the intersection of Business 151 in Mineral Point [4.1 miles]
  • Follow Hwy 151 into town, Left on 5th Street, down. Right on State Street, Left on Jackson. Left on Commerce, back to the parking lot.

1) Suthers Loop

  • Left (clockwise) on Suthers Road to Ivey Road [1.3 miles]
  • Up the hill clockwise to Ferndale [.8 miles]

2) Tibbits Road. This bisects the loop.

3) County G Loop

  • Clockwise (left) on County C, down to County G [1.1 miles]
  • Right (up) County G. Continue straight, "To Belmont", intersecting County O [3.6 miles]
  • Continue clockwise (right) on County O, down to the river valley again, back up to the ridge around the bend to County C. County O goes left, down the hill here [3 miles]

4) Burr Oak Road Loop

  • This loop begins where County C and O meet.
  • Go West (clockwise). Wind along the ridge to Oak Park Road [2.9 miles]
  • Right on Oak Park down into the river valley to Rock Road [1.4 miles]
  • Right on Rock Road over a few undulations to County O [2 miles]
  • Left back to Town.
Other notes of interest along the route: Along this route I have encountered deer, bald eagles, sandhill cranes and a mass migration of millipeds.
